The main reason for the refusal was the environmental damage that airport expansion would cause.
A conversation about the airport ’s future began in late 2017 when the public and stakeholders were invited to help shape a new Master Plan looking out towards 2050. Following further consultation in spring 2018 work continues on a Draft Master Plan which will be published in 2019.
This is the latest twist in the furious battle that has been waged over Bristol Airport since expansion proposals were announced in December 2018. The plans would mean an extra 23,600 flights and an additional two million passengers a year, as well as 10,000 more car movements a day and a multi-story car park on green belt land.
