NSLI-Y immerses participants in the cultural life of the host community, giving them formal and informal language practice and sparking a lifetime interest in foreign languages and cultures. Participants receive intensive language instruction, live with a host family for all or part of the program, and participate in a variety of cultural activities.

Interviewers can choose their schedule and can choose how many interviews they would like to conduct. It is a great way to integrate and engage NSLI-Y and YES Abroad program alumni and YES program host students.
10/31/2019 · The group of NSLI-Y students I studied with in Korea was a conglomeration of American diversity, representing many states, nationalities, backgrounds and identities across the nation. We became a very tight knit family through this academic and cultural adventure.

For anyone that doesnt know, NSLI-Y is the National Security Language Initiative for Youth, a US Department of State study abroad scholarship program that focuses on teaching high school students critical languages.
2/4/2014 · The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) is full, merit-based scholarship for high school students to learn critical languages in an overseas immersion environment for one summer or academic year. It is sponsored by the Department of State as part of an initiative to promote worldwide cultural understanding through mutual language.
The NSLI-Y program is a rigorous overseas immersion program and may be physically and emotionally challenging. Each student must be committed to working hard and participating fully in the group program, beginning with the mandatory pre-program language activities and pre-departure orientation through the completion of the program.
